Hurray! Today is the day we start the ABC Quiet book tutorials! I have to say I am so excited about this. I think it’s a great way to celebrate September and the “school-ness” that comes with it.
Today is when you’ll do some prep work to make later days just a little quicker and easier. There’s not that much but trust me, it helps to get these tasks out of the way.
First, you’re going to want to gather all your supplies for the book. I love having everything on hand, so it’s nice to gather ahead of time. You can just keep everything in a bag or box to pull out for when you’ll need it. It may seem like a lot of supplies but seriously, this is all stuff I had on hand and I expect you will too, or at least most of it. And you can get creative. Oh and felt is super cheap. Like $.25 each.
Supplies Needed:
- 1 Zipper
- 1 Mirror (preferably one that’s soft…does that make sense?)
- 14 Sheets white felt (for pages)
- Ribbon
- Brad
- Batting
- Felt…lots of it. Or to be more specific:
- Red
- Green
- Brown
- Light yellow
- Yellow
- Tan
- Polka Dot
- Purple
- Black
- White
- Pink sparkly
- Pink
- White sparkly
- Orange
- Blue
- Embroidery Floss
- Yellow
- Red
- Black
- Green
- Dark Pink
- Brown
- Purple
- Orange
- Dowel
- Yellow and Pink Yarn
- Needle
- Hot Glue
Step 1: Cut your pieces of white felt into 9”x9” squares. One side is already 9” so it should be fairly easy.
Step 2: Pull out the pink sparkly (or whatever color you want the letters to be). Ok now here you’re going to learn a little trick making perfect letters. Divide the backside of your felt into 2”x2 1/2” rectangles. Each rectangle will make a letter. Ok to make the letters you’ll need a ruler. It’s all about straight lines. Then whenever you need curves you draw a curve just around that corner. I made a little picture to demonstrate because it’s kind of difficult to understand.
It’s a “B”. BUT you will need to draw the letters all backwards. Got it? Hopefully… Cut out all the letters.
Step 3: Get ready for tomorrow’s tutorial! Hurray!
